The quiet life...

This morning I was awake early (a far to common ocurance ) awaiting the sunrise. It was a beautiful morning , the water like shimmering glass with a dense fog hanging across the marina shrouding the boats in an eerie cloud of white. As the sun began to rise so did the fog and ever so slowly the boats appeared ,tied to their docks , unwavering in the stillness of the morning. Occasionally a fish jumps making a circle of ripples that marks the spot. In the early morning light the sun starts to put its golden glow on the world. A blessing to wake up to for sure!

The past week was a windy one with a bit of rain thrown in. I did manage morning pool exercises all but one day but afternoon swims were limited. We have seen the arrival of even more northerners and it has been great to catch up with everyone. This week was "Why not Wednesday" with a large turnout at the clubhouse for food and drinks. The chatter and the laughter rang out loud and clear as stories and jokes were shared. This years lineup for social activities looks great with the promise of good times!  Friday was a wonder fish supper out with our friends Karen and Terrry from Buffalo followed by a rousing game of "battle of the sexes" . If laughter is good medicine then we all had a healthy dose.

Stay warm, safe and well everyone!

Beautiful morning....

It's a beautiful morning here in the island with sunny skies and little wind. The fish are jumping in the marina and it is a welcome sound to hear the splash and smack as they jump in and out of the water. People are prepping  their boats to head out onto the water for the day while others shine and polish their prized vessels. As we sip our coffee in the Floida room with the patio doors open the sounds and smells of Florida waft on in reminding us of how lucky we are to be here.

It's been a rather quiet week here just taking things easy. Our main outing this week was to the open house at Art Mundo , an art gallery that hosts a variety of different types of artists. It was there fall gala event and was really wonderful. There were so many talented artists including carvers, potters, painters, photographers, modern and more traditional artist. I certainly have particular taste in art although I am beginning to appreciate the more modern weird genres that are appealing to some people. Some of it seems to be kindergarten art gone bad, but people raved about it so I will take it as it is. Each to his or her own I guess. One particular artist that painted abstract with a a bit of realism thrown in really appealed to me. My taste in art is growing. Roger seemed to enjoy it all and surprisingly knew many of the artists from the community. It was a nice evening out with friends and free entertainment. Can't beat that!
Friday it was out for supper with friends to have the fresh catch of the day at a local restaurant. Swordfish....so delicious! Next to Mahi Mahi it is my favorite, oh it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I better go have breakfast.

Keep well everyone and take care!

Stuart Air show photos

I forgot to post some pictures of the Stuart air show which took place a week ago. It too was a great event and thanks to some friends here we scored some VIP executive tickets. This included entry to the show, VIP tent with great seating, free catered food and drinks and entrance to other VIP areas. We really enjoyed the performances of the stunt flyers and military maneuver demonstration. There was a midway for kids with lots of rides and many planes and helicopters to view along with military equipment old and new. We covered many miles that day looking at everything, but it was well worth the experience. Here are a few pics.

Sunday and it's raining.....

It's dull today with all grey skies as we settle in for an all day coastal rain. It's the first day we have had rain other than a few spits here and there. The foggy haze of the rain over the marina gives it an almost haunted look. Each boat sits still and straight, there are no people milling about and no reflection in the water. Just a lonely harbour waiting for the sun.  Tomorrow promises the sun to return, so life will once again return to the marina.

Up until today the weather has been great, lots of sun and warm temperatures. That meant pool time everyday and lots of time outdoors.  This weeks activities included a seafood and fish supper oceanside with live music, an evening of Thai cuisine, and a grand anniversary gala at our friends place of work. We are lucky to have such great friends here who always make life fun and interesting. The gala event was over the top with free flowing champagne, open bar, more food than could ever be eaten, including, sushi bar, chocolate  dessert bar, roasted pork and lamb with salad, Cuban buffet, and plates of appetizers offered continuously.  There was live art, dueling pianist and singers, and to top off the evening , a wonderful fireworks display. We felt like celebrities.

All in all a wonderful week. Hope all is well back home.

The week flew by...

The first week in Florida has flown by. We have reunited with old friends, met some new ones and are getting out selves into a routine. Waking up to warmth and sunshine everyday has been a real treat. Today the Floridians say we are having a cold front, but at 20 degrees C. , I think not. It is a breezy day though and the wind does feel abit cooler than usual. Probably not a pool day. Not to worry though there is the local downtown market on this morning  and the Stuart air show this afternoon. Windsurfers are on the ocean and there are great waves for the ocean surfers, neither of which I do , just in case you where wondering! Lol.

We think of home often and wonder what everyone is up to. Take care all!
